On the initiative of the Hamburg Ballet and in cooperation with Kampnagel, the project was launched to enable dancers from the Ukrainian National Ballet to do what probably helps them most right now: dance. Within a very short time, the Hamburg Ballet invited dancers from the Kyiv Company, many of whom are currently touring Europe and the world, to work in the Hanseatic city and create a programme with dancers from the Hamburg ensemble. At Kampnagel, the freshly assembled ensemble will have a stage as well as the technical and organisational support that this short-term production needs. The first soloist of the Hamburg Ballet, Anna Laudere, will choreograph the evening. In addition, John Neumeier will contribute his pas de deux "Wo die schönen Trompeten blasen" from "Des Knaben Wunderhorn," which will be interpreted by Ukrainian-born Alexandre Riabko and Silvia Azzoni of Hamburg Ballet. It is planned that the guest dancers will be given scholarships to enable them to spend a longer period of time working in Hamburg. The proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the participating artists. FOR THE AIR THAT WE BREATHE is a piece of motivation to face an uncertain future with greater strength.
